Re: Picture of '63 340h.p. 8" Timing Cover???
Attached are 3 pictures of a 62 340 HP timing cover sitting on a high HP harmonic balancer. The tab is marked with a 0 (zero) and an "A" as shown in the picture,
I think it the same setup as used on the 340 HP 63 Corvette.
I hope this helps you.- Top

Tracy and Bruce,
Thanks for the pics. I have a question...the welded part of the tab appears to be bent toward the outer part of the cover. Yet the repro tab from Corvette Central has the bend inward toward the crank shaft. Which is correct or does it matter?

Tracy and Bruce are correct. The spot welded section of a 62-63 and early 64 timing tab is exposed, or facing away from the crankshaft C/L.
Some time in, I believe, early/mid 64 MY, the tab was folded the other way and is hidden behind the damper when installed.
You need more orange paint on the bypass hose and clamps. Should be nearly completely covered in orange.
Also need to remove the orange paint from the idler pulley stud. It was installed at the St Louis plant long after the engine was painted at Flint.
Looks good!Last edited by Michael H.; September 25, 2008, 10:25 PM.- Top

Michael,
As much as I'd like to claim it, that pic is not of my engine (I'll be putting mine back together real soon though.) Thanks for the info on the tab and the critique on the engine in the pic. That was a real score of knowledge for me. Again, many thanks.- Top

Joe,
I'm not sure what paint was used. This is one of the pictures I took of Jim Lennartz's 63 chassis when it was displayed at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Regional in Breckenridge Co.
If Jim is checking in, I'm sure he will let us know.

No complaints because of the paint, or because there were lots of other nice things the judges had to write about on the LWC?- Top

Re: Picture of '63 340h.p. 8" Timing Cover???
Thanks for displaying a piece of my art!! As for the question of paint....it's your basic rattle can (VHT-SP123) Chevy orange high temp. With regards to the timing tab..... i bought a complete 62 FI engine made very late in 62 production. i used all the garnishing from this engine for Monet,my(63SWC) and had no doubt about it's configuration for my use. i hope this helps the hobby for fun and not for profit----- FWIW-Jim
PS: to all... if you have GOOGLE tool bar, you can use the spell check for your posts ,,,, very simple tool to useJim Lennartz - FWIW
