    396 Engine Paint Coverage Overspray

Does anyone know what degree the paint coverage typically extended down the bellhousing. Did they have paint coverage on the bottom of the bellhousing and inspection cover? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,

John, James --- extensive engine orange (or reddish orange) on the Tonawanda big block bellhousings, as evidenced on my late 396. I haven't had the trans out (yet) but the orange extends right to the flange where it bolts to the bellhousing. Don't have the original inspection cover, but I'd assume it was painted as well (but maybe not in the area of the rear main seal that is shielded by the back of the oil pan). The bottom of the bellhousing is painted near this cover.

Mine still has about 40% of its original paint -- the rest has flaked off.
