66 Big Block fuel pump question

    Hello all,

I have a friend who has a July 1966 car with a 390hp/427cid engine. The fuel pump is an AC with BF40366 stamped on the lower left flange edge and the AC logo embossed on both (left and right) faces of the pump casting in 5/16"-high letters. The inlet is 2 inches off the bottom of the pump and the outlet is 3/8 off the bottom.

He has a chance to buy an NOS over-the-counter pump from the seventies with AC on both sides, but the pump is stamped 1H40366.

The question that arises is do the BF and 1H part-number prefixes represent date codes? If so, are they judged and how are they deciphered?

Any help/feedback will be most appreciated.
    Thanks!

Re: 66 Big Block fuel pump question - Joe Lucia?

I saw a lot of lookers but no responses. I have a June 66 big block, but I bought a reproduction pump to replace the crappy non-original replacement pump that the previous guy had installed. It looks correct and is configured the same.

My guess is that Joe Lucia is the man that can either answer your question or will know who can.

    Joe? Any ideas?

I have had fuel pumps go bad while sitting on the shelf. Especially if the pump was installed and used even for a short time.

          Bill

Thanks for the feedback. I had similar thoughts about the reliability of the old rubber parts.

          Appreciate the insight!
