C1 Mirrors - need reproduction

Does anyone know who has nice reproduction rear view and side mirrors for a 58-60 ?

I bought the "correct reproduction" from CC for $60 which is Taiwan made and it is real cheap feeling, the glass was halfway popped out and the edges around the mirror is as sharp as a razor blade. The metal seems very thin.

Would the $100 Paragon mirror be much better ?

I also want a nice Y-50 side mirror. If I can't find one I'll probably pay the $300 to restore mine.

Mark, there was a fellow at Carlisle that repaired and had mirrors for sale. Maybe someone else will provide his name as I don't know it. Remember, the glass will be dark tint on both inside and out mirrors and interior (silvered on the back) mirror glass not day/night automotive mirror glass. When a credit card up to the mirror the two images are separated by about 1/1/6th of an inch. Day/night mirror glass (exterior silvering) the two images touch and started mid production 1960. Are any of the repo Guide Y50's up to par? Or are you saying they are not and you are better off getting your original Y50 restored.

Nothing like a real original one
1many don't have that dark glass
2different metal
3 over chromed
4using a magnet you can tell a repro

My vote is to restore your original as Roy said. Reproductions base edge is not the same. Mirror swivels are usually stainless steel instead of regular ole steel and most are not of the correct configuration. Do know of anyone that's using the correct reflecting glass in 53-60 interior/exterior mirrors. JMTCW, Gary....

Who does the best restorations on Y50's? Do/can they use the original glass?

Steve, saw Bob's work at Carlisle and they looked good. Bob Kaufmann - (717) 938-2731 Best was Ed Fish but unfortunately he's no longer with us. Exterior mirror you can polish yourself before you send it out. Base and exterior recommend replating by Paul's Chrome in PA. Wait's long but worth it. Paul's does the best repair and chroming on '57 grille oval and taillights. Did all of my 57's chrome and some of it was in bad shape when sent to Paul's and all came back looking outstanding. How about interior mirrors? Quick turn around is always good, but I fortunately have more than one mirror. Does Bob take care of everything? Polishing, plating and replacing the glass?

Thanks Gary! I have my original '57 taillights, lightly pitted, I removed in '65 and will contact Paul to have them redone.

'Always great and new info. on the TDB and greatly appreciated.
