PATRICK-
That's what makes me a ittle worried about just chuckin' the originals and replacing with reproductions. You are r quite certain if the replacement is going to do "justice" to the end product.

Marty,
That's why you never throw away old Corvette parts.
If you happen to be redoing your rocker covers, you might be able to do a package deal on the 2 covers plus the two sill plates.

Re: Factory Sill Plate Refurbishing
Not to hijack you post Marty, but I have the same situtation with my originals being scuffed up. On the repros I have the three raised stripes are narrower than the originals. A judge pointed it out to me, I just blinked.
I was about to send out my originals, now , not sure.$$$$$Terry- Top

KEN-
Any info. on that guy that's going to do your trim rings. Maybe I'll think about my rocker moldings, sill plates and trim rings also as a packaged deal. Winter is coming here to Northern Illinois, so no better time.

Re: Factory Sill Plate Refurbishing
I put repro sill plates on my 63 a long time ago, but still have the original "scratched" plates that are anodized. The repros are not anodized, and I like them that way as they look like new after 32 years. The anodized may be correct, but they scratch too easy and look real crummy that way. If the same as true for the C-3's, I would suggest you get your originals re-anodized and use for show only, then use repros for driving.

Re: Factory Sill Plate Refurbishing
Most 74's will not have the tab on the rocker moldings so you may want to see how close the reproductions are to originals. The deleting of the tab was noted in the AIM 8-2-73. A good set of no tab original rockers should be easy to find.Lyle

Re: Factory Sill Plate Refurbishing
I really do believe the parts are anodized. The finish sorta crackles if you scrape it with a sharp tool. I had some sailboat parts anodized many years ago and that was what the finish looked like.

Re: Factory Sill Plate Refurbishing
I checked the thickness of a business card today at .013 and I'm with Dick that it would be hard to see the difference. The thickness of the repo is the same as the difference in the size of the antenna ball or more than three times as much to see .050 in the ball .015 on the sill plate.Lyle

As stated, an NCRS judge, during a local shine show, said hey Ken those are repos. I went home and took out my originals and side by side you can see that the band thickness is different. Now that the overall thickness of the sill must conform to the car, the thickness of the wide band versis the narrow bands in black is compromised.
I can't say it as well as a picture. If you want I will take some

MARTIN THE SILL PLATED CAN BE REFINISHED, BUT WILL REQUIRE MANY HOURS TO STRIP DOWN, YOULL BE BETTER OF DOING THE MANUEL LABOR YOURSELF THEN TAKING THEM TO A REFINISHER , I RECENTLY STRIPED MY ROCKER PANELS MYSELF AND TOOK ALL THE PITS AND SCRACHES OUT THEN HAD THE REFINISHED . IT WILL TAKE MANY DIFFERENT GRITS OF SAND PAPER AND STEEL WOOL AND METAL POLISH.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
