My dash lights are dim but they are on I think . is this a switch problem-- a fuse problem or ?? any thoughts.

Are the heater/defroster controls dim also? If so, then it's probably the rheostat in the dimmer switch, if not, then it could be a poor cluster ground. How do your fuel and temp gauges work? Was the cluster removed recently?
Quickly run a jumper wire from the cluster to a good ground, and see if that helps. There is a spade connector ground at the top of the cluster that MUST be connected to provide ground for 2 gauges and cluster lighting.
