1977 original PF-25 Oil Filter - which one?

How should an original PF-25 Oil Filter for a 1977 look like?
Like the white repro type on the left, or the blue (PF-25 meanwhile replaced by PF-454) on the right?

    Thanks for your input

    Oliver,
I would say neither that you show is correct for judging. You need a blue PF-25 with the red, white and blue paper label. The label is approximately 2 1/2" X 3" . To the best of my knowledge the blue filters started in 1975 or so. Prior to that they were white which came in two variations.

Very interesting as the white one above is sold as a "Repro" at a bargain of 40 bucks!

Anybody have a picture of the "right one"?

Contact Don Griffen through this board.
He did all the research on this topic and furnished an article appearing in the Restorer.
Now that I think of it, he may have been the guy that actually purchased these things for GM back in the day.

The photo below shows what the 1977-era PF-25 looked like.

Interesting.... That one is quite bright blue in comparison to the "new ones", or does the picture play tricks?

The color is a little off in the photo. However, it's not too far off from the original color. These filters were a lighter blue than current examples.

                  Good to know...

                  So, putting all this together:
                  - the white one (expensive but available) is NOT the "right" one (good, no money spent in vain!)
                  - nowadays replacements are a bit too dark in color and have a different sticker
                  - nowadays replacements are PF454 replacing the PF25s...

There are other distinguishing characteristics and if you do a search, you'll come up on those threads where the differences are discussed. Even gets down to the paint on the lip. If you look closely the white and blue you've got may have white on the lip...original PF 25s...no paint on the lip. Stuff like that That way when you buy an original for $100, you'll know whether its the real deal or not

According to my research, Joe Lucia's response is correct. Features for 1977 include:

                      Blue Paint
                      Large paper label
                      Unpainted lockseam
