"Soft" is a relative term and a clutch referred to as "soft" usually means a clutch that has less pedal pressure than another. In the case of C1 Corvettes, all used a "3 finger" (lever/coil spring) type clutch. These require considerable pedal pressure to operate. A "soft" clutch for a C1, then, refers to a clutch that requires less pedal pressure to operate. Usually, this means a DIAPHRAGM-type clutch as used for all Corvettes after 1962.

Of course, there are diaphragm-type clutches that require considerable pedal pressure, too. But, in this case, we're talking about one that has approximately equal performance of the original C1 clutch. That sort of diaphragm clutch will have considerably less pedal pressure than the original C1 unit and, consequently, a "softer" pedal..
