Another one, now the only thing I see wrong on the one in question is that the grind marks are painted over or the tag was painted around it ?.

Typically a counterfeiter would be much more distinct as one of the posters here used to say. Yeah someone changing tags would have more sense than to butt the two tags together and in fact almost overlap each other. Probably some bubba on the line did this job. Probably had too many brewskys in him. I am going to guess that this is the real deal. But whatta I know. Trim tags are not my forte.

Do the characters on the tag look a bit strange? Very weird alignment?

What order were these tags installed ?? VIN tag first, or trim tag ??

I agree no reason to fake this car, I figure it slipped on the first weld and the body kept moving and it was hit were it landed on the second and third try!

                  Hello Hank
If you will ever consider having the car judged, I would recommend avoiding any surprises on the judding field and contact the National Team Leader for advice.

On my 63 Duntov car the two are .427 apart.

I guess to put my previous post in decimals as well, mine are .327 apart, or actually a little less than 3/8".

                        Hank,

I'd say it's good to go from the examples I posted and the close trim tag on Stuart car.

                          Re: C2 VIN TAG Placement

I agree that the alignment is certainly abnormal but strange things happen. The machine that produces the VIN and Trim tags are mechanical and similiar to a typewriter which have malfunctioned many times. The other thing to consider is the human factor. I recall taking a typing class many many moons ago and making some strange mistakes when it came to using the "shift" key.
It would be interesting to see what Al Grenning thoughts would be about this VIN tag.
