    62 Heater control valve

What is the secret to replacing a leaking heater control valve on a 62 Corvette? Specifically, removing the thermostat wire.

    Thanks,
    Rex

    Rex -

See pages 1-11 and 1-12 in the ST-12; outlines the procedure, including dealing with the capillary tube. I've never seen a replacement valve that had the capillary tube control arrangement - it was a failed experiment at automatic temperature control, and they must have realized it by supplying replacement valves without it.

I believe the current replacement water contol valves for '62's do not include the "thermostat" tube provision. I don't believe it really is necessary in any case. If you are trying for a PV test, and are concerned a judge might be looking for that, I suggest removing the cap tube from the original and attempt to make it look like it was really doing something for a living. I'd be amazed if the PV judge could or would make a call on this approach...
Of course, I was wrong once before... Dennis

The "ST-12" is the only C1 Shop Manual ever published - the full name is "1953-62 Corvette Servicing Guide"; available from the NCRS on-line store at the top of the page. A "must-have" for any C1 owner.

I know this is a long shot, but I was looking through the archives and saw this post. My question is how to get the clip off my old valve and put it on the new one without breaking it. (I think it's the control arrangement you mentioned, it just looks like a clip and the aftermarket doesn't have one on it)
            Thanks
