Does anyone have any information and/or experience with the past and/or present Huntington Beach Bloomington Gold Car Show(s). I received an e-mail from a C-2 web site. It sounds as though it may be interesting but I hate to make the trip if it is not worth while.

I've never even heard of an "Bloomington Gold" event being held in Huntington Beach, CA on 9/20 or any other date, for that matter.
Many years ago an event called "California Gold" got started with a Corvette show in Palm Springs, CA. It was a TOTAL DUD and I think it only lasted a year or two. Besides the fact that it was a dud, I think I heard that Bloomington Gold sued them for "copyright infringement" or some-such.
I just don't understand why no one has ever been able to get a "Bloomington Gold"-TYPE show going in California, but I know that no one has.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Sept 20 Hunnington Beach Bloomington Gold
I think that Huntington Beach may also be having their regular "cruise-in" car show on the 20th. This is an informal but very popular show that's been around for quite awhile. A good friend of mine that lives in southern California goes regularly and has told me about it and tried to get me to go down and attend it with him. I never have, though. However, while this show is very big, it does not focus on Corvettes or, even, restored cars. All makes and models, including and especially hot rods, are part of it. A lot of the hot rods have "lake pipes" (similar to 65-67 and 69 Corvettes equipped with N-14). That's another reason I don't go to the show. I've never liked "lake pipes" (or, the Corvette version thereof). In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Geoffrey-----
Well, every now-and-then I make an exception. It just goes to prove that I'm a really flexible sort of guy.
By the way, the clam and lobster count for my most recent "foray"? 34 lobsters and 14 pounds of steamed clams over 10 days. So, how much weight did I gain doing all this? None; I LOST 1 pound over the course of the trip.
I didn't get a chance to make it down to Bridgeport-way this trip, though. Besides spending 6 of the days with my cousin in from his abode in Thailand, I have an uncle (my only remaining blood uncle) and a 1st cousin in the hospital. So, I spent quite a bit of the remaining time there; who knows if I'll get another chance? I have a very uneasy feeling I won't.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Sept 20 Hunnington Beach Bloomington Gold
Nothing like my 65 with sidepipes. I have a 66 with the imitation side pipe sound under the car and i hate them constant popping on deacceleration. Any body know how to stop popping other than going back to mufflers?
Thanks

Re: Sept 20 Hunnington Beach Bloomington Gold
Assuming that you're running a Holley carburetor (if you have a Carter, then follow the same reasoning, except that Carters use a different power enrichment device, and use metering rods as well as jets):
First try to turn your idle mixture screws in (leaner) as far as you can, while maintaining decent idle and avoiding off-idle stumble.
Depending on your engine/cam, you can get idle mixtures as high as about 13.5:1. If you develop a stumble, you can still be able to eliminate it by adjusting accel. pump duration/timing/volume.
Check your primary float level, and lower it slightly (about 1/16") below specification.
Drop primary jet size, one number at a time, until just before lean surge and/or detonation occur.
Make sure that your power valve rating is (about) 2-3 numbers below your idle vacuum. Most street Holleys come with a 65 pv installed.
If leaning the primaries alone doesn't eliminate the afterfire, then have an exhaust crossover pipe welded in.

Re: Sept 20 Hunnington Beach Bloomington Gold
I've had 69 side-exhaust on my 71 SB since 71. I still love the sound and hear well enough to be able to enjoy a lobster on occasion.
Joe, is 34 in 10 days any sort of personal record?

No, I've done over 40 on a few occasions. I lost weight on each of those trips, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Hi Joe,
If I remember my high school history, I believe the early settlers along the Atlantic Coast used lobsters as fertilizer because they were so plentiful.
I think you put them to better use!
