    65 66 Antenna ID?...

    I believe this to be an early GM factory replacement....dated March 5, 1975?

    Whatcha think? Is the 2896870 the OE 65 Antenna number and the 1870979 the 66 number?

      Jim, I just took an identical one out of my 65 same part #s except it doesn't have the embossed dates. I've owned the car since 1988 so was installed before then.

          What's your source for believing this is an 'early' GM service replacement? The 1982 Corvette Parts & Accessories manual lists EIGHT digit PN's (22xxxxxx) for service replacement antennas. And, there are NO listings for service replacement antennas for '65-66 in either the '82 or '72 Corvette P&A Catalogs.

          Why can't you be looking at a generic aftermarket power antenna with that mfgr's specific model/marks on it?

              Have two like the one posted. Always thought they were service replacements for the 1965-66 antenna's. One is still in GM box with part #3998280.

                  The power antenna is in the "radio parts" catalog, not the Chevrolet parts book, my '72 edition shows the 3998280 as the available replacement, catalog was published at about the time I bought one for a '65 from my local dealer that looked just like the one pictured. Doesn't look or operate anything like the original.

                      The original SERVICE power antenna for 1965-66 Corvettes was GM #3864187. The GM #3998280 replaced it in March, 1971.

                              Right you are, Clup! The 1972 P&A Catalog defers to the separate radio parts catalog. But, the 1982 P&A catalog DOES list Group 9.6xx parts...

                                  Thanks all! Sounds like it would be the GM 3998280 circa 1972+. Body of evidence seems to support this conclusion. Still wonder what the casting numbers represent.

                                  Yep...certainly body and mast are not as original equipment...no doubt.
