    '55 windshield frame

OK, assembling the windshield frame, any tricks to getting it together easily? So far, I have gasket all around glass, top chrome and posts in place, getting the stainless on the bottom is proving to be a bit of a chore. I'm lubing the gasket to fit in the frame with diluted dish soap, but the gasket keeps rolling off the glass... My theory was to get all the parts in place and then line up the screw holes and tighten everything up. Any easier way?

    Thanks!

Stretch the lower weatherstripping to just cover the side post inner lip (end) about 1inc. To cover the post end , some guys don't but that's the way it was done . Use the same screws at the top post (two) on each side or if you replace them be darn sure they are not to long or you'll crack the window. Seen here is my 55 ,the holder is for my sun glasses

OK, windshield is in the newly chromed/polished and repaired frame. I found the easiest way was to put the bottom trim on first, then the posts. Align the backing plates in the frame with the holes in the posts (I used and awl) and loosely tighten these. Then flip the windshield in the upright position, and put on the upper frame. You can get the upper frame under the post by spraying everything with silicone spray and sliding the frame under the post. Lift the other post up ( gently) and then slide the frame under the post. Push the post back in place, use the awl to align and then tighten it all up! One person job, took about an hour. First, I'd make sure all your screws and backing plates are cleaned and threads chased. Having a can of silicone spray made adjusting the gasket and fitting it in the frame much easier. Work on a padded bench as wide and as long as the glass. Now, I wait for my wife to come home and help me install it on the car.
