    Charcoal Interior Paint

Does anyone know where to buy Charcoal interior paint for a 1958? I think the original was lacquer. Al Knoch sold it a year ago but they said the EPA prohibits it now.

    Dennis,

Lacquer has been phased out in a lot of places because of the huge amount of emissions. One gallon of lacquer is diluted with another 1.5 gallons of thinner, so basically 2.5 gallons of solvent evaporates for each gallon of lacquer used.

However, lacquer is available for use by private individuals. I used it on my own car and painted it myself. It did great for me and the only thing I had painted before was with a spray can! I hear only similarly good stories from those who paint their own cars. I hear nothing but bad from those who paint other's cars for a living. Not completely clear as to why this is.

If you paint it yourself, I'd recommend lacquer. If someone else paints it for you, they will probably not want to use lacquer.
