    86 - 700R4 Shift points

Anybody got a reference for a written recommendation on shift points in an 86 700 R4? Thanks.

As a general range, the '89 service manual for the 700-R4 looks for under 15 mph for 1-2 shift at light throtle, 17-26 for 2-3, and 34-45 for 3-4 shift, 1-2 at wide open 27-45 MPH if the TV is properly adjusted. Should have the details for your '86 in the service manual for '86, but my '89 doesn't drive significantly different trans wise than my '85 did, so these should be close. Info is in the "Transmission Daignosis" section.

      Bill:
That's exactly the info I'm looking for - BUT CAN NOT FIND - in either my '85 or '86 Factory Service manuals. I've just had the trans rebuilt and the _______________who did it insists that the shift into 4th between 48MPH and 53 MPH is normal. My recital of 40,000 miles before he touched it, it shifted into 4th at either 41MPH or 42MPH is not convincing; if I force him to change it, he will void the warranty. I need an '86 GM document to shove up his non-cooperation before I leave his store forever.
Anybody? With gas at $3.60, I don't need to be around town at 1700RPM......
