    C-3 deck lid hinge removal

    I tried the other night to remove the rear deck lid hinges from my 68, I tried different combinations of sockets,extensions and wrenches etc. to get the outside upper 5/16 bolt out (theres no clearance in that top corner to be able to turn the bolt out). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Bob Moon

    I hope you get an answer because I have a car in boxes with the hinges off and want to put them back on.

      The only wrench I found that worked on my 73 was a gear wrench. You get about 2-3 clicks per movement. It takes a long time and a lot of patience.

          Well,
          Did you get them out?
          All that's left before I drop the body is to rivet in the #4 body mount reinforcements.
          I can't get the upper hinge mount bolts out. I'm afraid they may be rusted as well as practically not accessible.
          I drilled two small holes to get to the rear rivet locations. Has anyone drilled a hole to get to the upper bolts?

            Hi Ross; I did get them out I sprayed some penetrating oil into the weep holes of the rear deck which loosened the bolts up, then proceeded to remove them using a 1/4" drive ratchet and socket. Time consuming 2 or 3 clicks at a time but got them out.

              Bob,
              I almost took a saws all and cut off the rear deck.
              This is impossible. I was laying on my back in the storage area for hours.
              I managed to get the two inside bolts out.
              I can't even get an open end wrench on the outside bolts, let alone a socket.
              There has got to be a way.

                Hi Ross;
                It's been a while since I removed and reinstalled mine but if I remember correctly I used a thin wall socket, 2" extension and a 1/4" drive ratchet. Once you have the wrench,extension and socket assembled it should just fit up in there.
                Tedious but I got them out.
