    C2 Brake Rotor Rivet Removal

I am getting ready to remove the rivets in my C2's rotors. I would appreciate any words of wisdom the membership has in completing this task. I have searched and read the available posts but always value the experiences of those who have completed the job successfully. Thanks. Dave

My advice would be NOT to do it unless you actually have to replace a rotor. In most cases, rotor replacement is not really necessary.

      Hello Joe
During my car's storage, my rotors and related brake components were badly rusted (the only major consequence of a long period under cover in a garage). I have struggled with this decision but decided it would be best to put new rotors, calipers and stainless steel brake components from a well known and long time supplier. Of course, the decision and purchase were made before I learned about NCRS and the wealth of knowledge and encouragement that can be found here. The new brakes have not been installed yet and your comment has given me reason to pause. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on the subject. Dave

If the only reason that you think you need to replace the rotors is rust, I'd DEFINITELY recommend that you re-think that. I'd first remove the rust with a wire wheel on a drill or die grinder. Then, use a 3M Brake Rotor Re-Finishing kit with a drill to finish the job. You should be able to obtain this kit from better auto parts stores or an on-line source.

In most cases, even if there is some minor pitting or scoring of the rotor surfaces it won't be a problem.
