    Need power and economy stop measurements

    Hi Guys and Gals
    Could use some help from a few F.I. guru's with '63 to '65 Fuelies, I need the stop screw distances that you have on the power stop and economy stop screws in relation to the enrichment lever travel. you know, the amount of threaded screw that protrudes past the aluminum housing on either side of the fuel lever under the fuel meter main diaphram. I have'nt the access to a manometer so the ballpark approach requires my fellow Fuelies help.
    Regards

    Marty, A very good answer lies at the bottom of your post. See Jerry Bramlett-April 26 or 27, 2006.
    "FI calibration for Do-It-Ur-Selfers." I don't think it can be put much better.
    One comment though is the next to the last line of Jerry's post. Take it very seriously. John D.

      Marty,

      Below is a post made by the late Dale Pearman in 2000 that I have found helpful. I tried to find the link to it in the archives as there was other good context in the thread, but was unsuccessful. For that reason I am copying and pasting in Dale's comment. I think the use of a manometer is probably the more correct way to do this, but it does not sound like you have a manometer at your disposal. here goes:

      =============================

      Dale Pearman <Send E-Mail> -- Sunday, 24 September 2000, at 7:52 a.m.

      I once tried to use the Kent Moore manometer with NO success at all. I don't want to sound negative but I much prefer the "drive it & tune it" approach. Just get out on the highway and lean the economy stop repeatedly by a quarter turn each time until the unit dosen't want to run anymore. The engine won't quit running but you'll know by the sound and feel that it isn't getting enough gas. At this point ENRICHEN the economy stop by 1/8 th turn. If not enough then do it again 1/8 th turn.

      On the power stop side just enrichen the screw by 1/4 turn and drive at wide open throttle. If you don't see black smoke then repeat the adjustment until you do. At this point lean the stop by 1/8 th turn and try again. If the smoke is gone then this is the optimum power setting.

      The advantages of this approach are that you have tuned for the fuel and altitude specifically encountered. You have compensated for any variations in unit efficiencies caused by wear, production tolerances, or other anomilies. Check the cold cranking signal valve. This item causes trouble on occasion. Make sure all the vacuum lines are tight. The idle air bypass screw and idle fuel screw are simple to adjust provided you don't get them interacting.

      I like to run a quantity of fuel through my units using an electric hand drill and oral vacuum to the control diaphram while the dog house sits on the bench. I put eight small glasses under the unit; one under each injector nozzle. I can see the spray (ha-ha) pattern and afterwards a comparison of fuel levels in the glasses shows any problem with clogged injectors, etc. Be SURE you have fire extingushers handy if you try this.

      Sorry to have a negative opinion about the Kent Moore Manometer. It measures ABSOLUTE values independent of the particular unit.

          Thanks John and Joel,
          I will start with the Bramlett method for a base and fine tune on a stretch of paved prairie as joel suggested, out where I can see a mountie within 5 miles.
