    1970 door vapor barriers/PW motors

1.) How does one remove the plastic vapor barriers to be able to reapply them after working on mechanical items inside the doors? They have what appears to be a yellow sealant to hold them in place. What is best to use to re-attach them?

2.) How does one get the window tracks and power window motors out of the doors?

    Thanks,

The vapor barriers were retained to the door frame by a dum-dum-like sealer/putty. Usually, the sealer/putty can be re-used to re-seal the vapor barrier to the door frame. If not, one can obtain a material that I believe is called "string caulk" from building material stores and use it. It's very similar to the original material.

However, my recollection is that both the original sealer/putty as well as the "string caulk" are a more-or-less light gray color. If your sealer is yellow, it may be that someone previously removed the barriers and sealer and re-attached using something like 3M Weatherstrip Cement. This type of material was not originally used, though. It's relatively easy to remove the barriers from the original sealer. It would be very difficult to remove the barriers from something like 3M Weatherstrip Cement.

As far as removing the regulators and motors from the doors, someone else will have to help.

I've never had occasion to remove window tracks or motors from a Corvette, but I have from passenger cars.

Assuming that they are similar to passenger car, there is a section of the Chassis Service Manual that gives step-by-step instructions for these operations -- as well as a caution about the force of the window counter-balance spring. It would be in your self-interest to read these, especially the spring caution. There are photographs as well, which will help some. Most importantly there are assembly and adjustment instructions that will make the more difficult job of re-installing these parts easier.

You will also get some help from the illustrations in the AIM -- especially as regards the re-installation adjustments.

BTW: I second Joe's observation about the vapor barriers being held in with the gray rope type sealer putty.
