    Re: 73 LS4 fan shroud

Glad I can chrip in on this one. My 73 LS4 built 7/5/73 has shroud part #
331869 and also has shroud extension part # 336152, which I'm pretty sure to be original. I can easily see the part numbers because I'm in the restoration process and my car is still completely disassembled. Funny that there were 30+ responces to the question about the clamps on 73 overflow hose and 15 or so on this 73 shroud, but ZERO on my question about "Proper restoration of 73 t-top".

Thanks for the information on the shroud extension. Bring the T-Top question back to the top. I must have missed it and would be glad to help if I can.

        Re: 73 LS4 fan shroud

I am new here and this discussion is just what I am going thru on my 73 L48 350 4 speed AC. Built in May 1973. The shroud on the car is a 339175 with a 331870 extension. I want to replace the shroud as it has several cracks. But now I am getting confused, from what I am reading in this thread I should be looking for a 331869 shroud to be correct for this car. Is this right? The radiator core support does not have the bracket to mount the 331869 so I guess I need to get one of these too, or give up and buy another 339175.
Try finding a correct coolant expansion tank for a 73. I still am looking for good one.

The support does not have any holes for the center mounting bracket but does seem to have holes at each side that would seem to work for the 74 style mounting brackets. I am beginning to think that this car has been wrecked. Luckily the frame shows no signs of it.

            Jesse----

Your car is a fairly late '73. So, I suppose it's possible that it was built in the 1974 configuration----unlikely but possible. However, if it was changed, it sounds like the support must have been changed, too. Is it possible the whole front end was changed? More than a few Corvettes have "exchanged" front ends and, often, the radiator, shroud and support get exchanged at the same time.

My 73 LS4 with AC has the correct finger tip fan blade. With this finger tip fan blade there is no way a extension could be used!

                Re: 73 LS4 fan shroud

I have been discussing this with Lyle Chamberlain; Lyle explained how to identify the radiator. The odd thing is the radiator appears to be correct for a 73.

Thanks for the input Ken that an A/C 73 454 can not use the extension. Now all we have is Harry With the shroud extension and it is not mounted in a car. Harry if you read this did you remove this part from your car when doing a restoration?

Good information. I have the correct shroud and extension, but the wrong fan 3947772 (off Camaro, etc). So I guess when I find the correct fan 3992095 the extension will have to go.

My L48 4 speed non-AC was built July 3rd '73 and has the 331869 shroud. FWIW.

In reply to Lyle, as I was preparing to take the engine out, I removed the fan (#s 914686 F73 3992095) the shroud (331869) which had what I guess was an extension (336152) attached at the bottom, the lower radiator hose ( that will be another topic ) and so on. I can't swear to the order of dissasembly - it's been awhile.

My 73 LS4 had the shroud extension on it when I bought it, but with the wrong fan. I just installed the correct finger tip fan blade and it fits fine with the extension.
