WOW!...My miles this summer on my DRIVER

I just sat down and looked at my spread sheet for my road miles so far this summer from 05-06-08 to 09-06-08 and it's up to 554 miles on my 1974 L-48 Convertible DRIVER and I'm wondering who else has been racking up the miles this year. What a GREAT year it's been up here in N.W. Illinois for driving anything with a fold down top....especially a Corvette.

I just took my '87 out for the first time today getting ready for a road tour. I has been parked since March, I topped the gas off at the time at the record high price of $2.98 a gallon!
In AZ its no fun driving an older one during the summer....our prime time is just beginning!

Re: WOW!...My miles this summer on my DRIVER

I am just 22 miles short of my limit for the year of 1000. Mine is a 63 and was 45 years old on July 09. I allow 1000 miles a year. Now kiddies, how many miles do I have on the car now?

Considering all the projects I've done on it this year, guess I did a lot of test driving. Here in central Forida, our convertible driving season is just about to begin. Last night was the first Saturday evening for the last 3 months with zero % chance of rain, so I drove the Vette to our big weekly cruise at Old Town (where NCRS winter meet is held each year). I sat in the shade sweating bullets. 4 hours later, 2 water bottles, and 2 cans of Coke and I headed home on the Greenway at 70 MPH. Nothing like breezing down the highway with the top down, the warm wind buffeting you so much you have to keep pulling your NCRS cap down over your ears least you loose it, and passing all the other Hot Rod wimps from the cruise who must have 55 mph governors (10 under posted limit). Got home and put my baby to bed, though it protested; "More!, More!, More!" Ain't it great to have an old Vette, one that runs like a thoroughbred?

Kevin, I admire your ability to keep the miles so low on the Bowtie. I understand why you want to, but a 365 horse big block is so, so, very sweet to drive, and life is so, so very short when you really think about it.
Plus.......war bonnet yellow is such a neat paint color, it always gets me wanting to take a ride.

The car has 18,300 miles on it, just don't like the sound of 19,000 lol
but you're right it's a blast to drive! Some times I just sit and look at it in the garage, it really is a piece of art.
                Thanks Ridge,

Put 60 on it today. It was beautiful after Hana passed through New York last night. That brings me to 928 for the year. Got about 2 more months before I put it to sleep for the winter. I was even able to buy premium gas today for $3.99. First time under $4 since May.

Got the car finished and on the road the week after Memorial Day. I now have close to 800 miles on the '62. Certainly not done driving this year yet! The best driving is yet to come.

                      Kevin,

                      61,000 doesn't hurt my 72.

But, I'm trying to keep "reasonable" while I own it. Since I'm only 40 I've got to watch the miles over the next many years. Maybe I'll keep it under 72,000 as a symbolic number.
It is enjoyable to drive, though, as it is so tight and runs and drives so well.

I'm not worrying about miles on the 08. I've almost caught up with the 3800 Dad has on his 02.

                        Marty,
My 2008 mileage thus far in my '64 is 9,603 miles. That includes an 8 day Texas Chapter Road Tour (2,040 miles), the Rocky Mountain Regional in Denver (2,480 miles, Top Flight) and the St. Charles National (4,326 miles, Top Flight and Sam Folz Memorial Award).

Prior years mileage included a drive to Park City National via Independence, MO with the Midwest Road Tour (3,962 miles, Top Flight, Sam Folz Memorial Award), the Las Vegas Regional (3,758 miles, Top Flight) and a drive to the Boston National via Denver with the Western Road Tour (5,971 miles, Founders Award).

The car just likes to go! Reckon I do too and GM built them to drive. No more Flight Judging for this car. Vintage Air may be in its future. Oh, and a trip to the San Jose National.

                        Best regards,

Kay and I leave Canada this morning for the Historic Motorama II. Tuesday evening we will be at the NCM, then St. Louis, Indianapolis, Battle Creek and then Detroit for the 100th Anniversary of GM. The big celebration is the 16th. Our ride this time is our black 1956 with 62,756 miles on it. The tour is 55 Corvettes one from each year. Anyone got a 55, we are missing one? Should be a great time.

"You're Not taking the Vette are You?" So at 5:30 AM Sat.from the mnts. we took the wife to Col Springs Airport. One way 120 miles. Then took the 67 L79 to Car show in Pueblo. 40 miles. Then Home apx. 80 miles or so. 240 plus or minus on Sat. Runs like a watch. Always get same comments. We never see these cars. You'll see mine a # 2 Driver.
