57 tire valve metal valve caps

Can anyone tell me for sure what the metal valve caps should look like for the 57 tire valve caps? There are some on ebay like the one's I used on my car, but the judges say they are not correct. Should they have the raised area on the top for pulliing the valve air release or just have a rounded top. One week to go, I am running out of time. LOL

Craig - I do not believe there was any stem cap provision for releasing air pressure from the tire.

Thanks Dennis and Roy, I will see if I can find a pair without the raised top.

        Best Regards Craig

I've seen two sources (Schrader and Dill) that are almost indistinguishable. Both are formed from SS and both have raised 'tits' in the top center of the cap that, when removed from the valve and inverted) serve to depress the valve and release air.

Every Pep Boys and NAPA I have ever been in sells them for cents a piece not mega bucks like e-bay guys want.

Same as with the Dill 627 caps also. My new truck has 5 on it. Easy to find.

Jimmy, THe new Dill 627 caps are not the same as the old ones. Notice the 627 script is very small compared to the real deal. John

Photo below is of the Dill 655 caps I had on my '57; never got a deduction for them.

My! John! That's a mighty fine picture. When you enlarge it, it looks just like my garbage can!

Dill is owned by Eaton and their valve stem products are still made/distributed. Discount tire uses them as their house brand.

I can't confirm the early vs. late advice some give (size of font used to ID the source/mfgr). And, I'm not sure if the metal, SS, version of the cap is still made/sold. But, if I wanted a set, I'd go to a local scrap yard that deals in used tires/wheels and sort through their box of misc valve stem caps...

John thanks for the picture, but that is what I had on my car and I did get a deduction. My understanding is that the cap should not have the raised top and be rounded. I have found 4 so far and need one more for my spare. I went to tire stores, front end shops and some old car shops in my area and after 4 hours only found 4. I 'll go out tomorrow and find one more I hope. If I am wrong and the one in the picture is ok, then you can get them at most any tire store. Thanks all for you input
