    1970 Corvette voltage regulator?

An acquaintance recently purchased a 1970 Corvette LS-5 coupe needing restoration and is adamant that it requires a voltage regulator. I say they don't, never did. The 1970 Corvette Registry does show a 1119515 voltage regulator across all engine applications. The alternators were SI-10s meaning that the regulators are internal to the alternator, right? Or am I missing something...like a voltage regulator? I have never seen one mounted on a 1970 Corvette including mine.

    Thanks,

You are correct. All internal regulators in all 1970 Corvettes.

I agree with Sal. No external regulators (e.g. GM #1119515) were EVER originally installed on ANY 1970 Corvette. Period. However, external voltage regulators were installed on all other 1970 Chevrolets. That may be the point of confusion here----unjustified extrapolation.

If any 1970 Corvette were found with an external voltage regulator, field modifications to the wiring harness should instantly and obviously reveal that.

I agree with Sal and Joe, and just to drive a wooden stake into the heart of this issue ALL 1969 Corvettes also had 10SI alternators and NO external voltage regulator.

Now we could get into some of the unique internal details of some of the early 10SI alternators, but it is better not to muddy the watters.
