    71 Wiper Motor - 4919437 ???

There was a post earlier this week regarding the sticker on the wiper motor. After reading the post, I went and looked at my small block 71 with AC. I found the sticker. Now, it does look like there is another underneath it. The one on top was not "perfectly aligned". I couldn't get the top one peeled back with out ruining it. The numbers on the top one are the following:

    4919437

    343 1 2 A

Is this a correct part number? It doesn't match the TJM...

    Thanks,
    Greg

Greg..... The label for early 71's was different from later 71's.... I believe due to the transition from the 5 port style to the 3 port style. This can be more definitively determined by the serial number of your car. 5 port = 5044758 & 3 port = 5044780. I believe there is a reproduction of the label out there, but I'm not familiar if any differences between it and the original exist. Hope this helps a little.

The 4919437 PN is what was used for a service replacement wiper motor (motor only). The 5xxxxxx PN listed in the JG book points to the factory original complete wiper motor assy (motor + washer pump).

While other judges believe the service replacement PN indicates the motor can't be the factory original unit that shipped on the car, I've run into TWO cases where cars had the service replacement PN on their wiper motors AND the date codes 'perfectly' matched the built date of the car...

This could be a coincidence (wiper motor replaced before delivery or shortly thereafter), but I'm not sure... I can't swear that in-factory wiper motor assy's that failed weren't occassionally repaired via wiper motor replacement. BUT, if so, such is NOT 'typical factory production' with the burden of proof falling on the owner. Expect judges to take deduction(s) for this kind of anomaly...

        Jack,

Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it.

My numbers are below. I believe the Julian Date Code shows this as a December 1971 code....can you confirm? The numbers from the decal are below:

        4919437

        343 1 2 A

Yes, it's mid December, 1971. So, that means it was a SERVICE replacement since, obviously, no 1971 Corvette was built that late. Most likely it was an early failure and repaired under warranty with a new motor assembly.

Curiously, my 1969 wiper motor failed very early in my car's life and well within the warranty period. However, my dealer was able to get it repaired and re-installed the same unit in my car. It worked flawlessly ever-after.
