    Fan Clutch Rebuild Advice

Can anyone offer any suggestions for someone who you have had rebuild an original Fan Clutch and are satisfied with the job they did? I am restoring my '66 and find the fan clutch may be failing. I am looking for a reputable source for rebuild.

    Thanks,

Fred does a great job. He does have a backlog. When he did mine he had it for 16 months. Also, because there is only one way to rebuild them it will be slights physically different in appearance, but still very nice. Call him and ask about his current backlog.

I bought a NAPA replacement clutch for $49.00 and that is what is on my 63 now. My restored fan clutch is in the box and saved for the judging field.

        Harry,

If you drive the car much you should consider a GM 3916141 fan clutch. They are very close the original Eaton clutch and would probably only cost a point or two.

Plus they are brand new. You can get one for about a $100 from your friendly Chevy parts guy and have it on your car by this time next week.

I agree with Joel, keep the original for judging and use the 3916141 for driving around. It may be more than $100 though, dealer cost is $148.27 and the list is $260.11

            John,

There is an ebay seller or gets them directly from Eaton and lists them for $90 plus shipping. They are identical to the GM except for the box.

What's the NAPA part number? Is it a thermo clutch?

Chris, I had to go find the box.

The SKU on the box is 7 46926 36954 7.

Other numbers on the box are 278825 and 36954

                  Good Luck

Just spoke with him a few weeks ago. One year turnaround time.

There's another guy who has been advertising in "Vette Vues" magazine for a year or so, named Vinny, at Pampered Glass Corvettes in Rhode Island, (401) 253-3356, who also rebuilds fan clutches; have no idea what his work looks like or how it functions.
