I have a 1966 conv with it's original 427 425 engine. The cars VIN (2857) is early and it was built oct. 12th 1965. What air cleaner decal do I put on the air cleaner? 425 or 450 HP? I found one artical in vette magazine that's says late oct or early nov they changed to 425. I could not find any info in the judging manual. Which one should I use? Thanks!

Hi Jeff,
Late October is what I recall as well, so you are probably right on the cusp. I think serial numbers are provided in the JG though. Also, Everet Ogilvie did a Restorer article on this topic a few years back. Might be worth checking your stash of old Restorers!

Jeff,
There was a very good article written in a past issue of the Corvette Restorer by Everett Ogilvie on this exact subject. It should answer your question completely. I don't recall the issue # at the moment.- Top

Re: 66 427-425 or 450 decal?
Jeff,
My 66 is a 427-450 HP and the serial # is 1508. Early 66's have polished SS wiper blades and arms. I am also curious as to when the 427's went to 425 HP (ie. serial # point in time).
PS. The hood support on mine is on the passenger side.- Top
