    1965 1966 396 427 hood

    Hi
Does anybody have a pictuer of how the hood bonding is suppose to look like on 1965 1966 396 or 427. Does it go in all the corners an at the tabs.
    Thanks Tony

Tony -- this observation is speculation, based on examining the hoods on my 396 and 327 '65's. I'd say those assembling the hood components were to add bond at the tabs and at the 4 corners of the underhood reinforcement structure.

You'll notice a small 1/2" depression to either side of the tab and the same depression about 6 inches to either side of the apex of each corner. IMO, the bonding agent was to be applied between these depressions.

Hoods are bonded around the outside perimeter only. Soft Gum drops material at all of the interior tabs.

A few 67 Hood photos are still posted on midvette.homestead.com

I just reviewed and they don't show what you wanted to see. I have a 65 and a 67 hood out in the barn. Will wait to see what else pops up here, because we are headed to WI.

Don't know if this helps. And question when the hood was striped there was no primer under the hood pins or hinges but there was primer under the support. The origanla stamp was there so I'm pretty sure it was as factory

To reinforce what Wayne said, above: Do NOT use bonding adhesive, whether polyester or epoxy, at the bonding tabs!

You must use a flexible substance at these locations.

In lieu of the old "gumdrop" adhesive, use 3m Urethane windshield bedding adhesive, or a much cheaper alternative is generic polyurethane "Roof sealant", which is dispensed in caulking tubes, and found at your local hardware store.

Joe is correct - if you use bonding adhesive at the tab locations, it'll "bond-burn" and distort the flat hood surface above each location where it's used; that's why bond was only used around the periphery of the hood.
