    Solid Lifter Camshaft "097" 1961

I tried to order a replacement camshaft for a solid lifter 315HP engine. I have used the Federal Mogul Speed-Pro CS-113R camshaft and lifters on two solid lifter engines. I have been informed that it is no longer available. Would anyone have a alternate vendor (manufacture) for the 37360"097" camshaft for the solid lifter engine?

    Thanks Ray

HI, I just ordered an exact "097" copy cam from my machine shop that handles Lunati Camshafts. The Lunati 20109 is an almost 100% copy of the GM "097". I will post the specs on the cam so you can compare for yourself.

    Good Luck,
    Rick

Crane does't show the Duntov their catalog, but when I talked to them about using the Duntov exhaust lobe on one of my designs, they said they had the master. I didn't ask about the inlet lobe, but I'm sure they have it, too. The only difference is that the exhaust clearance ramp is .004" taller than the inlet side. Above the tops of the clearance ramps, the lobe eccentricities are identical. Note that the OE lobe height spec is .2625/.2665" measured at the lobe, not valve.

Crane is about the only traditional aftermarket cam vendor I trust.

You could also try NAPA or their Web site. I'm sure they offered an exact OE replacement camshaft under the Clevite brand, which is Dana Corp. Sealed Power and Speed Pro are Federal Mogul.

I trust all of these three brands for any OE replacement engine part.

Ray,Such a shame. I have pushed this cam for many many years. I have heard they were hard to get but didn't realize they were history. Another one of my favorite things down the tubes.

Ray, Where did you order the cam. Or should I say who did you try and order it from? Thanks, John

            Ray,

After months of trying to order that CS113R cam and AT992 lifters, I finally found a parts store who checked to make sure they could get it from thier supplier and gave him a 100$ deposit this very day.

Will let you know if it actually does arrive. Expected next Monday.

            Joe

It was a good "racing cam" for the day in those short stroke configurations and the flow characteristics of the OE "small port" heads, but it's not a very good match - either road use or racing, for later longer stroke "big valve" engines - either with OE machined or "massaged" heads.

If I had a 283 with a Duntov I would use the same lobes, but increase the LSA to 114 with POMLs of 110/118, which essentially makes it a solid lifter clone of the L-79 cam with a little less lift.

This makes it a "custom grind" - about $250 from Crane.

The lobe dynamics just above the top of the clearance ramps are a little harsh, but time has proven that it doesn't cause overly rapid seat recession.

Driveline #182, page 44, ad for Performance Chevy 1-800-203-6621 and ask for Bill. He is making a knockoff 097 for $100 - rumbles like the original and provides enough Vaccum for FI cars.

I have used the same engine machine shop for the last three engines. He is the one that stated the 097 cam was being discontinued. I did what Duke suggested (Thanks! Duke) and check the auto parts stores on line. Carquest listed the CS-113R cam as still available. I called Carquest today and ordered the cam and lifters. They stated I should have the CS-113R cam in a week.

                  Thanks for all the help!

Called Federal Mogul Corp today and talk to a Speed-Pro Representative, asked them if the CS-113R camshaft was being discontinued. They stated it was not discontinued and there are CS-113R camshafts in stock at their Louisville KY warehouse.

...just goes to show you how much BS and misinformation is floating around. You can't trust anybody. Do your own research.

My cam came in today. They said it was comming from Kentucky but it must have had a good tailwind to get here so quick.

Yep, the accell 8135 dual window cap is discontinued as is the Plastic Kote argent silver gm7203 for the oil filler tube. The sands of time are running out! We better these cars up and running today!

Ray, You are 100% correct. I ordered one from CarQuest and they said the came was coming from KY warehouse.
I agree with Dukes statement on research.
If I were to go to NAPA in my town and order the Speed Pro they would say not available. But that doesn't mean anything except not available thru that store because of they don't have the connections. JD
