    66 Wiring Issues

I have been chasing issues with parking, brake and turn signal lights. I can get lights to work intermittently, one tail lamp barely glows all of the time, the same lite comes on bright as a parking lamp and turn signal.

I removed remnants of an old burglar alarm from the car and am worried that someone did something to damage the main harness.

The car runs and drives, all of the front lights work but there is no action on the ammeter when there should be draw from the battery. I have a NOS voltage regulator and am hesitant to use it until I feel more comfortable with the rest of the system. The rear wiring seems to be intact based on a visual inspection. Any tips or hints?

    David,

I would start by checking all grounds on the tail lights etc and make sure the old alarm and wires are not hooked to anything. The rear harness grounds under the dash behind the oil pressure guage to the bird cage framework.

Also check the body grounds on the drivers side by the # 2(firewall body mount) as this grounds the birdcage to the frame.

      Timothy -

Thanks for the help, looks like I'll need a chiropractor next weekend.

        David,
Make sure you have a service manual or AIM. It's a process of elimination and not really to hard to understand. With 40 year old wiring???

I replaced everything but the rear harness on my 63 and everything works good but you can feel how hard the wires are so I probably will replace it also.
