65 327/350 coupe with A/C Wiring harness Questions

    Hello to everyone,
I was installing new wiring harneses in my 65 A/C Coupe last night and ran into a question. Does the engine harness go under the clutch pushrod or over it as it goes from the fender/ Fuse block and up to the wiper motor?
It looks like the AIM show a picture that looks like it should go over. But it seems to be a better fit to go under. My old harness went under and I think that is original but you never know. Can someone with an unmolested 65 post a picture of the harness in this area. I also am wandering about the battery cabels as they were not in the clips as per the aim.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill

    Hi William,
Checked 2 1965 air cars and the original harness was above the clutch rod. Also checked 1 pretty original non air 1965 car and it was under the clutch rod. Seems to be less loop in the air cond. harness at this location making the installion above the rod more logical. The picture in the AIM shows the harness under the rod on the non air cars. Great Question. Hope others will respond.

      Hello Page,
Could you post or e mail a picture of the air cars?
      Thanks
      Bill

Bill -- I haven't forgotten you, but the deeper I dig the more I find / question.

First, I agree with Page C. that non-C60, non L-78 engine harnesses go under the clutch rod. Pic attached is of a non-air car that has sat since 1973. Definitely under, and held by the clip just inboard of the "DOT" firewall plug and the clip just above the master cylinder (looks rusty in photo).

Now my early '65 air car's original harness goes UNDER the rod, but upon close inspection, and laying a 1980's repro C60 harness alongside, I can see where my original is laying too far to the driver side (the neutral safety terminal pair with the purple wires and held with friction tape is too far on the driver side) -- should be at centerline of car, IMO.

Also, I checked my late 396; the harness installs similar to air car, and it's definitely above. To check, I've got a spare original L78 harness from early production [black wires with colored stripes rather than solid color], and again laying it alongside, with wire branches (to starter; to alternator) lined up, there's no way it could go under the clutch rod. Even though there's no wiring diag. for 396 option, that sort-of adds to the evidence for air cars being above the rod as well.

But what's really confusing is trying to figure out the firewall clips that hold engine wiring and battery cables. The battery clips are fairly straightforward (1965 AIM, "view A", UPC C60, Sheet E2). Shows 6 clips, 5 are for the positive cable and the lowest one is for the negative. Both my air and BB cars have another battery cable clip just inboard and above the parking brake pulley bracket upper nut.

In addition, both cars, (St.Louis bodies), which are about 22,000 VINs apart, have extra clips, but in different locations. There's a mix of clip types and attaching methods (solid rivets, hollow middle rivets, large flat ones) Could go on for another page on the differences of attaching points alone .

Anyway let me know of specific areas and we could carry on via email.

          Hello Wayne,
Thanks. Could you please, when you get a chance, post a picture of this same area of your air car? How early is it? Mine is 325X. As I said My original goes under. I am wandering if you run it over does it go above or below the hood release? Also then would you try to run it down to the firewall clip and then back up? That doesnt seem to work. and it IT seems that they wouldn't put a clip there if they didn't want to use it?
Anyway thanks again for all the help,
          Bill
