    Wheel Dates versus Build Date?

I have a January 28, 1971 build date and the wheel dates--all identical
K 1 0 2 29 AZ===February 29, 1970. Is this to great of a time difference? Is so what is the point deduction? Don't want to buy a new set--should I say probably won't. Thanks

    Paul,

I find that wheel dates are usually 2 to 3 weeks prior to build dates, sometimes even less. Point loss would be minimal however, as judges would only be able to judge the date of the spare tire.

Are you saying that the judging standard is that the spare rim date must be within 3 weeks of the cars build date?

Would a November 19, 1970 rim work for a January 28,1971 built car?

No! He's saying that 'typical' dating on wheels used in that era ran approximately 3-weeks prior to the car's final assy date. But, wheels, like other dated final assy parts, were pulled at random from inventory without regard to LIFO/FIFO inventory controls and the general NCRS guideline on dated parts is 0-6 months prior to the vehicle's final assy date...

There ARE exceptions to this general guideline and they're usually defined in either the applicable Judging Guide book OR in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual's Standard Deduction secioin....

Where is the standard deduction section--it is not in the 1970-72 corvette technical judging information manual & judging guide. Is the NCRS judging reference manual another book that is purchased from NCRS? Thanks

Yep, the Judging Reference Manual IS another separate book that, in my opinion, TOO FEW owners bother to buy/read... It describes in detail each of the NCRS Awards, the rights and responsibilities of both owners and judges, and sets rules for judging including certain parts that are common to all Corvettes regardless of model year (like glass, tires, Etc.).

In my opinion, restoring a car and having it judged without having bought/read the JRM is akin to practicing law without attending law school... Yes, you can do it, but the sucess rate is VERY low!
