I'm try to remove the drive shaft from a well used T-10 in my 59. The shaft appears to be stuck in the tail of the trans. I have tied a cable to the drive shaft with a come-along, but it doesn't budge. I even tied to reattach the drive shaft to the diff. but it drive shaft is in too far to re attach. I have a rebuilt T-10 ready to install. Any suggestions?

Re: Drive Shaft removal
the yolk usually slides right off the tail shaft. only time i've had trouble with yolk removal is when too much torque/ too sticky tires/too numerically deep rear axle ratio was employed that resulted is twisting of the tail shaft on a full throttle launch. .re-attach the come-along then take a crow bar or similar tool and tap the yolk via the crow bar with a stout hammer.or call dennis clark and ask him how he removed the yolk from his twisted tailshaft at Palmdale in '93. mike- Top

Drive Shaft removal
Think Mikie is on the right track. Possibly twisted tail shaft (which twists the teeth on the shaft). Rather than a come-a-long, I suggest a 5# sledge hammer to coax the yoke off the shaft. I know it's not a pretty picture, but may be the only solution. If others know of an easy, less violent fix, please step up. I'd love to hear it...Best, Dennis
