Does anyone have any recommendations regarding Polishing / Restoration of Aluminum Rims?

Your rims were polished and clear coated from the factory. The clear coat is probably long gone. I use Eagle One -Never Dull, on mine. You can find it at any parts store. Use a cotton cloth to finish the polishing. Wear some gloves when using it.- Top

My recommendation: have them polished and re-clearcoated by a professional wheel repair/restoration firm. Otherwise, they are going to be a continual maintenance problem and they'll never look quite right. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1977 C - 3 Aluminum Rims
My old 77's wheels were not quite polished but more of a satin finish with a clear coat over them. The rim just adjacent to the tire had a distinct machined appearing surface. The polished aluminum wheels were on 80's and later (pace cars too?).
I never got around to refininshing them but clearly polishing to briliant chrome like shine is not representative of the original finish.Attached Files- Top

Steve,
Besides water spots, do your wheels have any scratches, gouges?
I was able bring back some rough wheels using 000 and 0000 steel wool and finally Mothers aluminum wheel polish on my current car.
They are not show quality, but look great from 10ft.

Recommend MAAS to bring out the luster of your aluminum rims. Just used some on my neglected 69 Triumph motorcycle's aluminum primary chain case, timing cover, and gearcase. I used to keep them polished with Semi-Chrome years ago. Installed new chrome exhaust pipes, clamps, and chrome mufflers which influenced me to use the MAAS product to bring back the luster of the aluminum and I was very satisfied on how it restored the aluminum like I used to keep it many years ago.- Top
