Thanks to the New BC Chapter!

    Hey Gang!

I would like to extend a big thanks to Arne and Grant, and all the other great people who put together, and participated in the new BC Chapter's first judging. I had offered up my 64 as a teaching aid for the judging school, and arrived to find that they had a superb turn-out of seasoned judges and decided to make it official. So, without any prep whatsoever - and with a box of correct parts in the basement that had not yet made it onto the car - there was a swarm of friendly folks going over every detail of my car...

It turned out pretty good. I ended the day with a strong 3rd Flight - only a percent off of 2nd, and only missed a couple of items on the operations section. It was a good day for the car, for sure. Thanks again for all the hard work!

    Arne's 63 next to my 64:

      Hey Don,

The meet was held in Vancouver, at Grant's place (and his neighbour's) yesterday. Small world indeed!

They're working on setting up a super-meet with the NW Chapter for next year - I hope to have the car solidly into the next level by then...

      Cheers,
      Darwin.

Darwin --- was a pleasure to meet you; just got back to Calgary a few hours ago (1200 miles round trip to Vancouver). Hope chassis was not the reason you missed 2nd flight -- [why, oh why do I always end up on the chassis judging gang]. Nice '64; original drivetrain, panel seams showing through orig. paint -- could make a good argument for not touching a darn thing.

Here's another 2 pics of event host Grant Wong and new BC chapter president Arne Chaddock (right) accepting the official chapter award certificate from Arland Dower, N.W, Regional Director.

Reminder that Bend OR NW regional event is only 10 days away -- hope to see some of the same faces there.

Wayne, it was a pleasure to work with you on the chassis team.

This was my first time participating as a judge. I've read the 67 judging guide for my car (67) multiple times. I found I have a much better appreciation for how deductions are applied having to actually put the guide into practice. The deduction guidance from the pro's like Wayne Loron and Arland Dower was really helpful - no substitute for experience. I strongly encourage anyone participating in the NCRS to participate as a judge at least once - you will get more out of it that the effort it requires.

Grant and Lilly - thanks so much for all your efforts in hosting the event.

Re: Thanks to the New BC Chapter!

To all who attended the first BC NCRS judging school I have to give special thanks to Arne Chaddock who took the time, effort and experience to start up BC NCRS. Also without his right hand partner and wife Doris Chaddock this would have not happened.

I especially like to thank Darwin for bringing his car and I hoped we all learned a few things about his car and Darwin now knows alot more about his car. Especially when Wayne and I were inspecting the rear end to find a rare metal shim that covers the strut rod bracket. I guess a very rare item as most were thrown away. Something I learned as I'm not familiar with mid years. But Wayne was excited like a little kid in finding that part. He's in the picture laying underneath of the rear end of the car in pink shirt. What a guy. Just gets down and dirty. The picture of a gentleman kneeling down with his butt facing us is Glenn Bindley. I guess he was praying so he doesn't have to go underneath the car...LOLOL

The first BC NCRS judging school would also not be a success without the unselfish support from Arland Dower, Kay Dower, Wayne Loron, Larry Richter, Alice Richter, Dennis Clark and Sondra Clark.
Maybe next year I'll have a salmon BBQ after the event. Yes...fish that I caught myself.
I also like to express my thanks to all the BC NCRS members who attended and made this event a success. I hope that everyone who participated in the judging school learned a few things and carry it to the next event or just more knowledge about what to look for in fixing or improving your car. Without all you guys and gals attending....it would be nothing.

For those who missed the event I hope you can make it to the next one......I hope my nice neighbour will lend me her big spread again. I think I will have to spend 2 days and power wash her place next year. I cut my other side neighbours lawn and that is where I store my 71 that needs a full restoration. Great neighbours, Great NCRS members and Great BC NCRS members.

On a lighter note I want to dedicate this event to my friend Richard Morin.

I always wanted to start up a BC NCRS chapter for the past 20 years with a good friend of mine Richard Morin but he had to move away 16 years ago. With my work load and all I really couldn't start up the an NCRS chapter in B.C.
Richard was one of the early NCRS members under 10000 I think. So he was into corvettes way before me. I bought my first corvette in 1986. Richard had a 69 frame off restored 427 390 hp at that time. His Pride and Joy!!! He taught me everything about the 69 vette and could rattle off any part number that belonged to the car.
Richard heard about BC NCRS and it didn't take long for him to join and quickly volunteer for a position. Even Richards health wasn't the greatest but he was still inspired to join. Richard also attended NW Chapter event at Leavenworth Wa. He had a great time there too.
Richard sadly did pass away in Jan 08 but his spirt lives on and I'm sure he is smiling at our first BC NCRS judging school. Hey Richard...I have your BC NCRS name tag and will take it with me to all the NCRS events where ever I can go. Take care buddy.

Grant - what direction am I supposed to face when praying to the corvette gods?

We expect to see that rather special 68 of yours ready for flight judging next year - what a beautiful car - even half together. Your wife is one understanding woman by the way - I haven't seen so many car parts since I was a kid and spent the odd Saturday with my dad at the auto wrecking yard he owned (they were all ford parts unfortunately).

                Hi Glenn
Well any direction is okay when we pray to the corvette gods. I just pray that my wife doesn't find out how much I paid for a part...LOLOLOL I'd be flat on my back facing the sky with stars and birds circling around my head... Well not really. I have a great wife.
As for parts I don't think I have near as much as Joe Lucia....LOLOL
Thanks again for all that attended.... I had a lot of fun.

Re: Thanks to the New BC Chapter!

                  Congratulations to all involved!
An incredible Kick-off for your new chapter.
Amazing what a little dedication can achieve.
For everyone, current, new members and owners alike, I strongly urge you to watch for and attend the next Judging Retreat, probably in 2010.
This event provides insightful and conclusive education of the Judging process with fine examples of original cars as "Hands-on" examples.
Hope to see you all in Bend. Please look me up and say "Hello".
