    C1 screw Trivia

A few people restoring their Corvette don't realize all C1's used (all) self tapping screws. The factory drilled a smaller hole to allow the screws to in large and tap the hole . That is why it has a tapered cutting angle.
Hard to locate them now days in different sizes .

Speaking of C1 screws, Roy, do you have a picture of what was used to attach the black and white terminal to the courtesy light switch screw on 53 to 55 cars? Mine were evidently discarded long ago and a speed nut substituted.

The black wire with the white tracer attaches to the front screw somehow. Was it a "J" clip or something else? On mine, the terminal was just slipped over the screw which made for an intermittent connection with the courtesy light blinking when the door is opened.

There is no back and white wire going to the door button switch ,It's a long wire? it goes to the valve cover screw ?

There is a black and white wire that is part of the courtesy light circuit and attaches to the courtesy light button which is acruated when the door is opened. There is a white wire with a terminal that slides into a clip on the back body of the courtesy light button. The black wire with a white stripe is shown in the wiring diagram as attached ro the front tab on the button, presumably attached to the screw that protrudes inside the dash and holds the courtesy button to the car body. Do you know how this was attached? On my car, the terminal at the end of the black and white wire was simply slipped over the screw end with nothing to hold it permanently. Looks like a clip or something else is missing.

Thanks for your help and posts, Roy!

OK I think I know what your saying. The black and white wire on some vetts is in the main harness going to the door button and courtesy light to gather , (wireing print)what your talking about is separate wire (black and white) grounded to the (courtesy light screw and nut). Not the door switch as you described. The pic is a mid-late 54?and all 55's door button switch (all door button switchs have only TWO wires going to it. That is why the wire just sits on the door button switch screw making the courtesy light come on and off.(bad ground ) move it to one the courtesy three screws.

Thank you for the picture, Roy. My switch is different and has only one clip on the back. That is the way it was made, it didn't have one broken off. The other wire is grounded to the housing of the switch via one of the screws that holds the switch to the body of the car. Your switch looks similar to what I have on my 58. My 54 is in the 2200 range produced in early June of 54.
