My understanding is there were 3 different lengths for GM throwout bearings. Does any one have a Timken, BCA, GM, part numbers for the 3? Also how much difference is there in the lengths? Thanks

Re: Throwout Bearing Length / Part numbers
For 1957 through 1981 there were only 2 different clutch release bearings. Most were 1-1/4" in length. During the mid-60's to early 70's a 1-9/32" bearing was used. However, the 1-9/32" bearing was discontinued more than 20 years ago and replaced by the 1-1/4" bearing. The 1-9/32" bearing is not available from any source I know of.
I believe that 1954, 1955 and/or 1956 may have used a 1-7/8" bearing. However, this bearing was NOT used after 1956, if it was even used that late. I just don't recall these early applications and I'm too far from my references to check.
The 1957-81 bearings as currently serviced are as follows:
BCA-----CC 1705C (traditional bearing configuration)
BCA------614018 (self-aligning)
Timken----614018 (self aligning)
Delco------CT24AG (self aligning)
I believe that all of the above bearings are manufactured by BCA/Federal-Mogul. Clutch release bearings are ball bearings and Timken does not even manufacture ball bearings. Timken is a ROLLER bearing manufacturer.
I recommend self-aligning type release bearings. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
