JOE-

Do you have the number for a 1974 stock L-48 GM replacement oil pump? Do they offer / recommend any performance options? We used to "Blue-Print" our oil pumps for drag racing. Any need to do that with a street motor that would use a GM pump? I'll also be looking at my bearing clearances.

Just getting my list together for this winter's projects. THANKS!

I'm a long way from my references right now so I can't confirm it, but my recollection is that the current GM part number for the STANDARD volume oil pump for your application is GM #12555284. I'm pretty sure that's the correct number but I'm not 100% positive. I'm pretty sure GM #12555884 is the high PRESSURE pump which differs from the above only by the installed relief spring.

I don't think that GM manufactures these pumps anymore, though. I think that Melling supplies these as well as most other-branded oil pumps on the market today for older applications. So, a Melling M-55 might be exactly the same now.
