    1970-1972 LS-5 Fan Shroud

What are the original part numbers of both the LS-5 fan shrouds with and without AC for 1970-1972? 3956119 with AC and 3956109 without AC? Or are they the same part number but has to have an extension with AC?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott-----

GM #3956109 is the 69-72 small block fan shroud. GM #3956119 is the big block fan shroud. However, my recollection is that a different shroud was originally used for big block with C-60 applications. I do not recall the part number. I did research this point some time ago, though, and that part number should be someplace in the archived posts. I can't look up the part number right now since I'm 3,000 miles from my references, and I just don't have every part number committed to memory-----some but NOT all.

Both the 3956119 and the other big block shroud have provisions for an attached extension. Also, as I recall, the 3956119 may have replaced the other shroud for SERVICE and I think the other was discontinued a VERY long time ago. The 3956119 was discontinued several years ago.

              Scott,
As I recall from prior research I did, the 1970 BB C60 shroud was a one-year only.
I have written down a part no. 3974015 with 3956089 for the extension.
These are really hard if not impossible to find...in my experience.
If you run across a couple of 015 shrouds, let me know 'cause i need one.
I don't believe they are in reproduction either.

VERY, VERY close. In fact, I have 5 pounds of steamer clams and 2 lobsters just a few feet from me right now. I had 3 giant lobster rolls for lunch (about the meat from 1-1/2, 1-1/4 pound lobsters per lobster roll). Last evening I had fried clams and fried oysters for dinner after having 4 giant lobster rolls for lunch. Heading up to New Hampshire tomorrow and I've got 6 giant lobster rolls "for the road".

I'll have a complete report on my lobster and clam eating totals after I get home.

GM #3974015 was the part number for the big block with C-60 fan shroud. However, it was used for 1970-72 big block with C-60 and not just 1970. It was discontinued in December, 1973 and replaced by GM #331869. That shroud was pretty much "still-born" and replaced by GM #339175 which was the SERVICE shroud for 1973-75.

I don't know which to address first....the seafood or the fan shroud. I guess I did the obvious. Even thought it's just after 7:00 AM here in Texas that seafood you described sounds delicious. The closest I can get to seafood around here is Dead Lobster.

Thanks for the detailed part numbers and the information on the fan shrouds. On this TDB one gets a lot more bang for their buck.

Scott.... you already have the most reliable information possible regarding the correct part numbers from Joe...... but to add just a small bit of additional info,,,,, the small block with C60 shroud (4spd & almost sure in included the LT1) is the fiberglass shroud that doesn't require the extension. However, I believe there is a small additional piece near the bottom that completes the shroud's enclosure. This is sometimes referred to as an extension... but really just completes the circular enclosure.....hope this helps a little more....

Better not have your cholersterol checked right now. You would probably have a heart attack if you saw the numbers
