    58-60 pricing.....

I'm looking for a 58-60 Corvette for my Dad and since I'm more of a 68-69 guy I really have no concept of the true current values of the 58-60 years so I could use some help.

This all came about while I was trying to put his 55 T-Bird back together the past couple of days. He has always wanted another Corvette and years ago this T-Bird project came up so he bought it thinking it would "do" but it hasn't and I just don't have the time to assemble it and deal with my 69 at the same time. Sooo I figured that I'd try and get him his 58-60 because that's what he really wanted and put off the T-Bird for down the road or even just sell it as is. We are still on the fence on what to do with the T-Bird....

Basically what we would be looking for is an older driver with useable paint and chrome. Numbers matching is not needed or even wanted due to the prices so we would be looking at base engine cars with PG or Manual trans but it should look more or less correct. It would be okay if it need some interior work like carpet and so forth. It should have a soft top but he doesn't want a hardtop. Oh and frame and bird cage? I assume that C1s have birdcages??...must be okay.

So what should I expect to have to pay for a car like this? I'm thinking low to mid 30s.... Does that sound reasonable?

Where are some good places to look for a car like this. I do the ebay thing but a lot of those don't sell for what ever reason and dealers don't seem to have any drivers...just done up cars...

Thanks guys. My Dad will appreciate it! Oh and I will too because his T-Bird is a little more than I can chew right now.

That's one of the places I'll be looking Jim but my problem is not really knowing what the market is like for a car like what I described. Is low to mid 30s realistic or am I dreaming?

I think you're looking more at $40-45 for what you describe.

Later 57's through 62's have metal birdcages in them, but they are entirely self-contained within the fiberglass body, and have no rust issues with the birdcage windshield and down like the C2 and C3 cars do. The only rust issue on the C1's is if they have sat with water in them for significant time, they may be rusty at the very bottom of the cage, which is behind each kick panel at the floor level.

I've seen drivers with low-horse engines for mid-30's no problem.

You need to check sites other than ebay, like hemmings.com, and corvettetrader.com, vettefinders.com etc

I bought my '59 290 FI for 38K last year and it's in near (laugh) driver condition.

Upper 30's to low 40's depending on condition.

                Re: 58-60 pricing.....

Still looking but have a quick question on pricing these later C1s... Are the 61-62s generaly of lessor value than the 58-60s? I thought they would all be pretty much the same but I'm starting to get the feeling that the 58-60s are worth a little more than the 61 & 62s.

                Here is an example:

Condition wise this is pretty much what I'm looking for but in a 58-60. Maybe it's just me but I seem to have come across more of the 61-62 Corvettes like this in this range than the 58-60. Is it just me or are these last two years less desireable?

                Thanks guys.

You get what you pay for. Check them out before laying out the cash. There are a few nice ones on ebay or in the driveline. I'm a 62 guy myself, but think your dad will enjoy any year that he gets. Good luck!

I know I don't like the 61-62 as much as the 56-60. I figure, if you're looking at a 61-62 may as well just go all the way and get a 56-60 or a midyear 63-67 instead.

Well I personaly don't have any preference and like them all but I wonder if the 58-60s bring more money than the 61-62s.

Just like the 64s bring less than the other C2s and the 68s bring less than the 69s......

John- I myself would be happy with a 58-62 but my Dad never cared at all for the back end of the 61 or 62 so it's 58-60 or nothing.

Greg - not sure if you have tried this search trick. I type "1960 Corvette its not OK" into Google and I believe it gives me all the 1960 Corvettes listed in Craigslist. I have used this countless times to search Craiglist for cars or parts. I found the correct 692 heads for my car for $45 for the pair doing this.

Another site I have used is "usedcorvettesforsale.com".

I bought a pretty nice 1960 driver California car for $34K last October. It has a strong running crate 350 and from 10 feet it looks pretty good. They are out there.

                        Good Luck.

That's a neat trick Mark! Thanks!

I know that reasonable drivers are out there in the mid 30s even though a lot are still advertised in the mid 40s. Your little search trick will give me something to do at work tonight!

Greg - did you see this car ? He posted it 9/29 and got rid of it the next day. he was looking for $15K but ended up taking a trade.

It ran 4 years ago and he said it was original.

Would this have been a good fit for your Dad ?
