    Body Lift on 1967 coupe

I am planning on doing a body lift on my 67 coupe but have 2 questions I hope someone can help with. First, when I was tryimg to find the body mounts that are suppose to be under the sills, all I find are 2 holes with red plugs in them. I cannot find any type of body to frame attachment at this location. I have found what would be the 1st, 3rd and 4th attachment mounts. However, I have found what appears to be another attachment point almost below the 3rd mount. It appears to be a multi strand cable that is attached to the body and comes thru a hole in the frame and is then attached to the frame. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone or am I missing something? Also, can someone tell be where I can find a good description of what to do to with the steering column when doing the lift. Thanks, Dennis

There are no body mounts under the sills. Those red plugs cover holes to guide the body onto the frame I believe. I have not done a frame off but it is my inderstanding that there are 4 mounting points on each side. One in front where the frame bends inside the wheel wells, two inside the kick panel where the bird cage comes down, three in front of the rear wheels where the frame kicks up over the rear wheels(access plate in wheel well) and fourth behind the rear wheels. At least that is where they are on my 70 and it should be the same for a 67 since they have the same frame. I believe the braided strap is a ground strap. Do you have an AIM? That will clearly show where the mounts are. If you don't have an AIM get one. It will be invaluable if doing a frame off.

cable behind seating positions is for securing the seat belts to the solid mounting of the frame. there is another one in the center of the car for the same purpose. three total

as for the steering column I remove it prior to the body lift.

        Dennis,
Go to Kevin McKay's Corvette Repair web Site. It is www.corvetterepair.com and click on "tech tips" on the left hand side of the opening page and you will get a tutorial on the body lift of a mid-year Corvette. Good luck and I hope it helps you with your questions.

          Dennis -

That's the location for the #2 mount, but they were only used on convertibles. You'll only have three body mounts on each side on a coupe (#1-3-4), plus the three seat belt reinforcement anchor cables.
