    1961/1962 Horns

I just restored a 1961 Corvette #680. It had 351/352 horns. This was a one owner car and had been sitting since 1968. The manual calls for different horns. Were early 1961's equipped with 351/352 and until what serial number. Thanks,Steven J Neel

According to your copy of the 1961 AIM book, UPC 12, Sheet 7, the horns changed from 9000352/351 to 9000442/441 on AIM date 7/7/60 (roughly two months before model year change over and '61 production startup). We do NOT have visibility on how much inventory was in the factory for 1960 horns at the time production started up for 1961 cars. But, it'd be safe to assume the factory did NOT go out and SCRAP perfectly good/useable parts just because the model year had changed.

Since your car is early (first month of production), I would NOT presume the horns you have aren't original to the car...

I would agree with Jack--but have several 61's in my files that are earlier than yours that have 441 and 442 horns, including one earlier than serial # 20.
For judging, you essentially have two options:
Be prepared to take a slight deduct because of the non-standard configuration (which I would do if I was absolutely convinced that they were original to the car) or:
Put 441 and 442 horns on for judging, and the 351 and 352 back on afterward.
By the way, there is an ever so slight difference between 61 and 62 441 and 442's.

Are the current reproduction 441/442 horns that are listed as exact reproductions exact? I am trying to decide on having mine rebuilt, get exact repro from a vendor, or do it myself.

I ALWAYS go with originals parts when possible...several people rebuild horns, Joe Perri, Andy Cannizzo... if you decide to go that route.
They'll look and act like new.

Before and after pics of my one-year-only 63 horns. You'll have to confirm that your restorer does C1 horns...
