    C-3 Jack Spring & Hook

Are the spring & hook (for the jack / handle) natural in color or are they painted black or ? JG does not specify for 1974. Thanks in advance.

The spring is dark or black but I don't think it is paint and the handle loop is silver color or cad.

      Hi Marty,
The appearance of the spring and hook for my 71 look like what Lyle described. I remember both pieces being VERY rusty. They cleaned up easily, though.
Enough of the 'finish' was left on the hook and spring that I didn't feel as though they needed to be replated.
I'd call the hook zinc, and the spring black oxide.
      Regards,
      Alan

Re: C-3 Jack Spring & Hook

I found a spring and hook while cleaning the workbench this A.M. The spring was about half painted so if it is original it was painted gloss black. I will check a few cars today.

          LYLE-
I was wondering about that. Mine looks like it was painted black and is now rusty, there's some paint left on the very end. I appreciate your research.

71 must be different that 73-74 as their is just a spring with a loop handle on one end. The other end of the spring just hooks to a clip on the floor.

My 71 has a hook with two prongs (sorta like a Y with curved arms) on one end and the other end of the spring has the last 2 coils turned 90 degrees to catch the clip riveted to the floor of the jack compartment.

I misspoke. I looked at my hook ( I have 2)--they both area silver on the end with the "W" and black on the rest including the two coils at right angles--all the coils on the spring including those on the end are black. I agree with Alan.

My 71 is the same as Alan has described. I believe it to be original.

Could you post a picture by any chance?

                        Martin,
God's honest truth I have not yet mastered the posting of photos. Something to do with the format of my digital camera and the accepted format of this forum site. Sorry. The hook is natural (silver) and looks more like a (3) with the spring connected at the center allowing the use of either the upper or lower portion of the 3 to hook the catch loop in the bay. The spring on mine appears to have been painted the same color (black) as the jack. I promise to get back to the photo issue as I realize the importance of using them compared to trying to describe an appearance. Mike.

                          Hi Marty,
I don't have a picture but there is a good photo in the Paragon Catalogue, page 111 ( if you have one) or at their on-line catalogue.
                          Regards,

                              Hi Marty,
It's a black and white picture. So no, you can't tell the 'tone' of the hook, you can just tell that it's plated 'bright'. The spring just looks black.
                              Regards,
                              Alan

PS: The hook on mine has been plated. I can see some of the original plated finish and also some areas where I've buffed the plating off and can see the natural color of the hook's materal.
