Info from original 1964 Welcome Letter from GM

If anyone has an original 1964 Chevrolet Welcome Letter could you possibly tell me who signed it? I was trying to goggle who was head of the Chevrolet Motor Division in 1964 and two different name came up. If a picture is possible I would love to see it.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Craig

It was Bunkie Knudsen until the late 60s, as I recall either 67 or 69, and then Pete Estes.

According to old New York Times and Time Magazine articles posted on the web, Knudsen replaced Ed Cole as GM of Chevrolet early November, 1961 and stayed there until the end of 1965 when he was appointed a group vice president for all Canadian and overseas operations.

          K. E. Knudsen would be the guy who signed your letter.

              I don't have one for a 64 but one dated 22 April 65 was S. E. Knudsen.

Michael, do you happen to have a picture you could provide?

                Thanks,

The letter I received in July, 1966, with my 1966 Owner Kit was a slightly different format, was not dated and was signed by E.M. Estes. Actually, it was a copy of a form letter with his signature, only the owner's name and address was typed in. BTW, the folder in the kit that I received was Blue and I was told it normally came in a 1967 Owner Kit. FWIW. Dave

Just for general info, we move forward to 1971 and the letter is almost the same. See the picture of mine signed by John De Lorean, again with no date on it.

My 1966 letter is essentially the same as your 1971 letter, except the last paragraph was changed slightly and the signature, of course. Dave

David and others, The letter I received in the summer of 66 is identical to yours. Signed by E.M.Estes General Manager. His hand written signature( ?) is signed the same way. The letter is not dated. I have the original but can't put it on line here as too dumb.
If anyone would like a copy let me know and I will have a colored copy made. The letter is in black ink. The signature is in blue ink.
I also have the original owners manual and pin around here. Not for sale though. The manual is missing the Corvette News card. My 66BB was my all time favorite Corvette although the LWC is very dear to me also. John D

                              John,

I have an early '66 Coupe. I would really love to have a copy of the letter you speak about. I will be glad to pay for copying and mailing charges if you can copy your letter. You can reply to Toyvetts@aol.com and I will send you my mailing address. Looks like you and I joined NCRS nearly at the same time.

                              Thanks
