C3 Seat Angle Adjustment Shim Plates

C3's all were delivered with 4 seat shim plates and 8 washers. When I bought my 74' in 07' I received 3 shim plates and more than 8 washers. When my son bought his 74' about 98' he received no plates or washers. I have looked for years in Driveline and other used parts sources for someone having plates for sale but none ever show up. Seems odd as there must be thousands out there not associated with a car.
Anyone have any idea why they seem to be so rare an d hard to find?

If you look close the shims and washers may be installed and take a second look to see them. The other problem is C-3 seat backs are easy to bend on the frames that makes the seats tilt back and the the need for shims to get it back close to stock. When installing new seat covers one should check the frames to see if the stops set on top of each other and for bent and cracked parts. Most seats need welding and patching or a plate sold by vendors to reinforce the bottom frame.

The seat shim kit is thought to have been a standard issue item from the factory through the '75 model year. It was packed as an accessory for dealer/owner installation if needed/desired. Some original owners have discarded the 'kit' by ignorance.

Reproductions (shims, washers and cloth bag) are available in reproduction from most of the catalog houses. Check out Corvette Central's PN 483209...

One supplier is selling four long shims and four washers as a complete set. Check how many you are getting. I would try Sal first.

Curiously, my 1969 was originally delivered with the muslin, draw-string bag containing 4 rectangular shims and NO washers, at all.

Sounds like either the delivering dealer installed 'part' of the shim kit, robbed it for another vehicle's delivery OR you were the recepient of a QA/QC 'opps', Joe...
