    Pain At The Pump

An interesting story that I had to share. This past weekend I was at the gas station filling the tank, and being very careful not to spill a drop of gas on the lacquer. I look up and notice the SUV on the other side of the pump pulling away... with the nozzle still in the gas tank! The rubber hose stretched and finally yanked the nozzle out of the car, which caused it to snap back right toward baby and me! Fortunately, the nozzle hit the pump - BANG! The driver gets out of the SUV and puts the nozzle back in the pump. She looks at me with my eyes as big as saucers and says, well at least it didn't pull the whole thing out of the pump like the last time. That's right - this wasn't even the first time she had done it!

Anyway, baby and me were unharmed in the incident, however my shorts did not fare quite as well.

Wow, that could have been 57 ways of nasty!!! Glad you and baby made it out of there unscathed.

Easy on the blondes Don. I lived most of my life as a blonde until too much wisdom turned me gray.

Nope, wasn't a blond. Stupidity knows no hair color.

Maybe New Jersey does one thing right (no self serve at the pumps).

Lots of dumb people here in New Jersey, most of them politicians... We also have a special way of dealing with crooks... we elect them to office and send them all to Trenton!

She sounds like a suitable candidate for a FULL SERVICE gas station

I will admit that about 15 years ago, after filling up my car, I remembered that I needed a bag of ice. Leaving the pump, which had already stopped, I went in, got the ice and walked back to the car, got in and drove away. When I got close to the house I started to notice all my friendly neighbors waving and smiling as I drove by. Thinking they were just being friendly, I waved back. Then as I pulled up to the house, I noticed the look of absolute horror on my wife's face. The nozzle was hanging out of the car like a tail. I never heard it pull and the break back at the station was clean, right at the quick disconnect-just like it was supposed to. Needless to say, the embarrassment of the incident still makes me cringe all these years later. I calmly put the hose back inside the car, drove it back, walked inside the station and said to the kid behind the counter "I think this is yours". Something I won't forget.

                      Steven,

It takes a brave man to tell that story! I respect that! But at least you didn't make the same mistake twice!

I think that's what this lady did as well. When I pulled up and the SUV was unattended, and she apparently went inside the convenience store while the tank was filling up. There is a good lesson here. Never leave the pump unattended.
