    1965 Throttle Linkage Finish (Inside)

I am at the stage of mating the body back with the frame on the 1965 396 convertible that I am restoring. The 1965 TGJM states that "the interior portion of the tthrottle linkage is plated black phosphate."

The picture that I have attached is from a 26k mile Duntov/Bowtie car. I took the pictures at the recent NCRS National Convention. The finish is clearly not black phosphate. So... do I follow the judging manual OR make the car correct using the cad or zinc finish as seen in the picture?

Also on this same car, the clutch actuation linkage that protrudes through the firewall looks to be a natural finish BUT the Judging Manual again states black phosphate fisnish is correct. So what should be correct? Is the Judging Manaul wrong?

    Thanks,

James -- checked my two '65's, and inside gas pedal linkage is inconclusive, due to some pitting, carpet glue, etc., but I'd guess originally black phosphate.

HOWEVER, I've got four clutch pedal push rods here; and all are black phosphate. One is NOS '65-6 BB, one is SB '64; other 2 are on my cars. All are unmistakeably blk.phosphate. Can post close-ups of the two if desired. Is there a possiblility that the intensity of the electronic flash tends to "bleach" patinas ?

BTW, those pics show a missing clip attaching the hood release cable to the LH kick panel vent cable .
