    Theft Protection

For those members that use their vehicles for a trip to the store, a dinner outing and an occasional trip to work; what method(s) do you use to provide theft protection? Do you rely on a steering lock such as club or go for advanced methods such as lojack?

Any thoughts about working out a club/group discount with lojack?

    Thanks,

    Don

I think about it but for the last 30years never had a problem even when going to NY and all around the country ( may be I'm lucky or the Corvette gods have been good to me) 99% of people are good people!

Well, it is hardly foolproof, but I always just remove the green knob from my battery cutoff switch and take it with me. Sometimes I even manage to fool myself - hop in the car and wonder why it won't start!

        Don,

That is a tough question to answer. The steering wheel club does nothing, they will simply bend the wheel until they get the clearance to remove it.

The tow trucks today can back up and extend the wheel lifts hydraulicly for a quick ****** and be off in 15 seconds.

LoJack, I don't know, the car is still gone. It is sad to have to think about all of this simply because you have something that is not only nice, but something you have put your heart into making it that way.

I am open for soutions if anyone has something practical to offer.

        Ken

LoJack LoJack LoJack ! if it's available in your town and they have good coverage get LoJack nothing else will help. I guess you missed all the recent posts about stolen Corvettes, And yes Roy your lucky I'm lucky but in the past 6 months every car on my web site stolen would have been recovered if they had LoJack. If your car rolls and they have 10 minutes it's gone.

The really sad part is the response the owners of these cars get from the hobby. Most responses are how cold you be so stupid! well to a lot of people these are just cars they just have, or inherited have no idea there worth. They are not in the hobby or obsessed by there car. I'm making it my goal to inform owners of this problem, last weekend a gentlemen with a 62 asked me if they make LoJack for old cars, and he lives in the same neighborhood were 3 Corvettes including a Z06 and parts were stolen from a garage!

Don't wait for a group buy, buy one now come on our cars are worth $$$$ a 1k investment to get your car back? I've had one on my 67 since 1989 and if you store a car this system will alert you if it's moved.

i leave my empty gun holster laying on the dash in plain sight to let the would be car thief know that the owner is armed and could be close by.

                      Re: Theft Protection

Call me paranoid but if I go out to something, the car has to be within eyesight or I won't leave it anywhere more than a few minutes.

I worry more about the cluless non-car retards that will park nexto & hit it with thier door or worse, their vehicle.

I was at a cruise night the other night & a guy & his 5 year old son were riding bikes thru looking at the cars. The kid (not too stable on a bike yet) is heading toward my car & turns about 3-4 feet from it in marginal control. When I spoke up the father looked at me like I had two heads.

People just don't give a crap about other people's property.

Dale Pearman had it best. A logging chain with links the size of my wrist and a heavy duty lock.

Wow! That reminds me of that scene with the police car in American Graffiti!

I still have the key to the lock for the chain that I used to tether my '55 to the carport in Hawaii. Part of my driving ritual was to coil up the chain before I left... Mine does not get parked out of sight anymore, not so much afraid of theft, but vandalism.

It don't matter what devise you use if a real car jacker wont's it /it's gone. Or never drive it , it's retards that worry me that just like to brake something for the hell of it. I don't neglect where I part it but "some" other Corvette guys worry me about small parts when at a Corvette show.
