All 67 L88s found now? (maybe old news)

So, I was just reading my latest copy of Corvette Enthusiast last night. In there, is an article detailing the life and restoration of a silver/black 67 L88 coupe.

Near the end of the article, it says that this car is the final 67 L88 to be found and documented. Is that true? There must be a super-secret L88 database somewhere.

Just curious. I've always wondered how many "ultra rare, ultra desireable" vettes are left out there, waiting to be found. (L88, L89, Z06, big tank cars, etc)

Probably meant to say "latest" instead of "final"..........

That may be. But the wording was something like "this is the last of the original 20 to be uncovered and documented."...........something like that.

I thought only 57 of the original 20 '67 L88's had been found so far....

Barry, you stole my joke! I was going to say that of the 20, over 50 had been accounted for.

I am always surprised at how may big block mid years are out there as matching numbers. In relative terms, they were such a minority of the production. I see at least as many big as small block it seems.

really? A minority? You mean the rest of production was non-matching number big blocks?? I figured that actual production made all matching number cars

I wish you all could tell me where you have seen all these 57 or 100 or so 67 L-88s, 12 at bloomington this year, if 50 are around where are they, I have only seen one phoney one that was brought to a show in my 24 years with NCRS, I guess the only honest guys are the ones with small block cars. Phil, as a fellow owner of an L88, a lowly 69 however I too get sick and tired of all the assumptions that there a ton of fake L88s. I have seen a few but it is very easy to keep track of a couple of hundred cars when you have been tracking them for over 20yrs. BTW my car is very well known and does have its original drivetrain and virgin fiberglass too

Phil, the last fake 67 L88 I recall seeing was in 2004 at the Carlisle auction. It was a white/red convertible, VIN 2380.

No, I meant big blocks were a minority relative to the number of small blocks produced. Wasn't it something like 10 to 1?

According to The Black book there were 9707 corvettes produced with the 427 cu in engines in 1967. That is less than 50% of the total 22,940 produced that year, but no where close to 10%.

There are many reasons why we see so many big block 67's at our events (particularly in comparison to small blocks), but I think the actual number of fake cars, that is made up cars or converted small block cars at NCRS judging events is probably very small, never the less it does always seem to be a popular joke.

Would the numbers be similar for 66? I didn't realize there were so many BB's in 67.
