Paint removal on egg crate side louvers on 1970

    Hello,

My 30 plus year old paint still looks good only when it was painted,
the prep work was not too detail oriented and they painted over the chrome
work on the side egg crate louvers. I tried using paint stripper along with a
plastic putty knife. It worked somewhat, but the paint is really on there.

I'm wondering, would a brass wire wheel be safe enough on chrome?

I'm sure it would remove the paint. If it's safe, the only thing small
enough to work would be my dremmel and I wonder if the small brass
wire wheels are even available for the dremmel.

    Your thoughts.

    Thanks.
    Joe

Keep applying the stripper; however, if all the edges are clean you don't have to worry about damaging the other chrome as it is painted over.

      Joe,

I finished a set of these louvers for a friend and I used my glass bead cabinet and used plastic media. It will strip the paint off and not damage the chrome.

        Hi Joe,
There's been a good bit of discussion about painting the side grilles and dealing with the surfaces that should show chrome when you're finished.
If you do a search I think you'll find the info useful and interesting.
        Regards,
