    62 Powerglide

How would I identify an original 62 air cooled powerglide?
I know someone that thinks he might have one. Were they used in the early 63's?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm concerned about Roy's response--62 powerglides did not have large holes in the bellhousing area. Some of the differnces are that For a Corvette, their tailshaft housings were longer than passenger cars, and their were bosses for the shifter mount that the passenger car did not have. There's an article in a past issue of the RESTORER that details much more than what I justgave you--that's on the C1 CD available from NCRS store as well.

          Re: 62 Powerglide

          Mike,
I assisted a fellow member to find a 62 Powerglide. He was converting his car back to its original configuration. I finally found one at Carlisle but only after a long search. I don't remember all the details of the case but I do recall that the tailshaft had two large "bosses" on the sides near the shifter mounts and both were partially snapped off. Either in the AIM or some other booklet confirmed that feature as correct. That was a way to determine that it was a correct 62 transmission.
